The difference between GP Sales and Medical Sales

The difference between GP Sales and Medical Sales

It is amazing the amount of people who ask what is the difference between the GP or Pharma Sales Rep and the Medical or Device Sales Rep.

I have outlined the main differences in order to make it easier to differentiate –

  1. GP or Pharma Sales Rep details only to GP’s
  2. Medical Sales Rep do not detail GP’s at all, only Hospitals or Community – ie Consultant Doctors or KOL’s
  3. GP Reps detail Drugs/Pharmaceuticals
  4. Medical Sales Rep detail Devices/Products or Equipment
  5. GP Reps have a much smaller territory given the amount of GP’s in any one area
  6. Medical Sales Reps have the Province ie Leinster, Munster etc
  7. GP Reps tend to have fewer over night stays
  8. Medical Sales Reps tend to have more overnight stays given the size of their territory
  9. GP Reps tend to suit young Science Grads
  10. Medical Sales Reps tend to seek Nurses and Allied Health Professionals who are familiar with Hospitals

I hope this helps in outlining the main differences.
